The Fairfield Lions boys cross-country program continues to be the standard-bearer for the sport in the Southeast District as the Lions won the 2019 SE District championship, with this being the ninth consecutive year the program has achieved that feat.

The Lions won with a score of 47, winning by a 17-point differential over second-place Rock Hill, who totaled 64 points. FHS had an average time of 17:26.19.



On Saturday at Rio Grande, the Lions had two runners finish in the Top 3 with senior Ethan Davis finishing with a time of 16:35.59 for second place in the race and also earning one of the two district championships. FHS junior Cohen Frost finished as a district runner-up with a third-place finish at 16:59.79.

In the SE District, the top two finishers are district champions, and the third- and fourth-place runners are district runners-up.

Fairfield’s next finisher was senior Gavin Campbell with a 15th-place spot in the final order with a time of 17:47.39. Also in the Top 20 for the Lions was junior Blake Haines with a time of 17:53.20. Next for the Lions was junior Brant Haines at 17:54.94 for 21st place.

FHS freshman Landry Hattan was 31st overall with a final time of 18:24.16 in the district race, and junior Nathan Vidourek was 62nd place at 20:21.21.

Lynchburg-Clay’s top finisher was junior Dawson Osborn with a 17th-place finish, having a time of 17:51.32. In 22nd place for LCHS was sophomore Austin Barnhill at 17:56.23. Both runners qualified for regionals with their finishes.

Whiteoak’s top finisher was sophomore Robbie Raines with a time of 18:06.06. Next for the Wildcats was freshman Wade Evans at 19:39.58 for 49th place. In 52nd place for the Wildcats was freshman Christian Price at 19:56.39.

The 66th-place spot went to Whiteoak freshman Evan DeAtley at 20:25.42, while WHS sophomore Connor Butler was 83rd overall with a time of 21:04.65. Sophomore Bradley Ashbaugh was 88th overall for Whiteoak with a time of 21:15.01. WHS sophomore Bryce Bailey was 99th overall with a time of 21:50.34.

For the entire race, there were 140 runners in the event.

As a team, the Whiteoak Wildcats were ninth out of 18 teams. WHS scored 243 points and had an average time of 19:50.42.
