Booming in the ’Boro is scheduled for July 3. After much consideration from the committee, working with our local Health Department, Rozzi Famous Fireworks and the Senior Fairboard, we feel we can still put on a great show for Hillsboro.

We are going to implement some small changes to comply with the possible restrictions that may still be in place due to COVID-19.

The fireworks will still be set off from the Fairgrounds at 10 p.m. However, the following changes are being put in place:

• We are encouraging people to not congregate in one area, but to take advantage of multiple parking lots around the city.

• We encourage social distancing and practicing safe spacing.

• We will still have hillside parking at the Fairgrounds, but on a limited basis.

Many other cities and towns canceled their fireworks for 2020 for multiple reasons, but we have found much of it to be from the lack of fundraising. We realize this has been a very challenging year for all local businesses in our community.

However, we are still seeking donations from local business owners and the public, as we know this is a very different year from years past. We still need some help to make this show possible. Unfortunately, the City of Hillsboro has made budget cuts, and their financial commitment to the show was one of them and a significant portion to our budget for the show.

The total projected cost to have a show like ours is $15,000. We have many committed sponsors that have always supported the show and Hillsboro. We are needing more this year to be able to give back to this community. Given the 2020 year that we have had, we are looking forward to bringing something fun and positive back to Hillsboro.

There will be a Facebook event set up that will post up-to-date information that you can follow, or feel free to reach out to Scott Lewis at (937) 393-4227.
