In many ways, my routine hasn’t changed all that much during this pandemic. I’ve been fortunate to be able to continue working, and have continued being a homebody. I’ve always shopped early. I was glad when I could finally get my hair cut. But in my mind, and probably in most people’s minds, things do take on subtle changes.

  • What kind of legacy are you leaving?
    Friday, July 31, 2020 9:09 AM
An ethical will is prepared as a document to pass along one’s values and beliefs to the heirs. It doesn’t hold material value. It holds something more dear. It is a legacy of what one believes, how one hopes to be remembered, what lessons and values one wishes to pass to their progeny and friends.

  • Words we don’t hear anymore
    Monday, June 15, 2020 8:48 AM
I’m sure there are words and phrases unique to all parts of the country that tickle one’s fancy, that are used less and less these days. More’s the pity. Hopefully, this kindled some memories of good words gone by.

  • Memorial Day worthy of reflection
    Sunday, May 31, 2020 8:22 AM
I’m proud each Memorial Day. I also mourn each Memorial Day. Since the demise of the draft, fewer and fewer of our citizens have a direct link with the military and those who serve. That sea change is having an effect that only historians will be able to assess accurately.

  • Quotes that mirror our thoughts
    Sunday, May 24, 2020 10:15 AM
With your indulgence again, I’m sharing words and thoughts borne of renaissance thinking that prove there are those individuals who shine and articulate situations in ways that elude most of us, even if their words illuminate what is in our hearts and minds.

  • Pay attention to the words we all use
    Sunday, May 17, 2020 11:59 AM
For me, words take on new meaning in times of stress. What people say, write, tonality, context all seem more vivid. I also find myself projecting my particular momentary space onto others’ words and thoughts. This is always dangerous. We can misinterpret, and set things in motion we never thought possible.

  • Human behavior is an oddity
    Monday, May 4, 2020 7:55 AM
Human behavior is an oddity in the best of times. When crises hit, whether on a personal, local, national or international level, it becomes something else altogether. As all of us find our own way to adjust, we see the entire spectrum of behaviors.

  • Love comes in all shapes and sizes
    Sunday, April 26, 2020 9:21 AM
Pets can bring joy, solace and a sense of peace to anyone and any family willing to share and care. It’s a commitment. But I’ve found that pets truly embody that increasingly rare gift, unconditional love.

  • View of life through our own lens

There’s a new appreciation for those people who get the goods to the stores, and all those involved in the process that we really don’t see, and probably haven’t appreciated enough in times past. I don’t take for granted any more that I will always find the items on my shopping list.

  • So many questions, so few answers
    Saturday, April 11, 2020 1:55 PM
We’re finding that humans really are creatures of habit like most species. We’re also finding out how spoiled and entitled we’ve become. We expect instant gratification, instant answers, instant whatever. Now, a situation we can’t pigeon-hole has us flummoxed and we’re grasping at any and all rhetoric, whether it passes common sense or science muster.
